Via the Badware project, the users can make informed choices about what they download, knowing which websites are dangerous as well as knowing which applications to avoid. The Badware Website Clearinghouse is a collaborative effort to build a dynamic and comprehensive list of websites that host, link to, or otherwise distribute badware.

“Websites can distribute badware in a variety of ways. Some sites intentionally distribute bad applications for profit. Some feature ads, often provided by third parties, that attempt to automatically install harmful software. Many sites have been hacked without the site owner’s knowledge, and can download dangerous code onto visitors’ computers when a user simply visits the site.
