Crowd funding platform: Find out myafricanidea.com from Nigeria since September 2012
Based on a concept like Kickstarter in USA
Myafricanidea from Nigeria, by Abasi aims to provide a crowd
funding platform where individuals or start-ups from Africa in sectors such as
arts, music, technology, science, charity ... may upload projects for the world
to fund.
Here how myafricanidea.com works regarding
the internal rules.
First you will be required to upload your pitch on the website. This would
be done by filling a form and attaching a video .The video may be shot.
Second the form would require that you set the minimum amount that is
required to complete your project and a target date.
Third for example, because you are targeting thousands of people, you would
be required to break down pledges into realistic contributions (example: if you
are trying to raise $4000, you may do this by asking for contributions of $1,
$5, $10, $20, $200, $2000 etc. so that you may get 2 people contributing $2000
each or 4000 people contributing $1, etc. which equals $4000).
Fourth your supporters (those
contributing) are not doing this for equity but because they believe in your
idea so you should come up with creative ways to reward them as an enticing
reward may contribute to the success of your campaign because it attracts more
backers. Example: if you are raising funds for a documentary, you may offer
rewards such as an exclusive poster of the project, the DVD itself, a mention
on the films credits (producer, executive producer, etc.) proportional to the
amount contributed.
Remark: If the amount isn’t reached by the target date the money pledged by
contributors would not be released to you in most cases (the exception being
social projects). However if the minimum amount is reached or exceeded by the
target date you will receive the funds.
