Invention: Find out iCow an SMS and voice-based mobile phone application for small-scale farmers in Africa.

Designed by Su Kahumbu Stephanou , a social entrepreneur, founder of Green Dreams Ltd and Green Dreams Tech Ltd companies focused on creating solutions for smallholder organic farmers in Africa.  iCow aims to be an SMS and voice-based mobile phone application for small-scale farmers in Africa. iCow started as a virtual veterinary midwife, helping farmers track the estrus stages of their cows, while giving them valuable tips on cow breeding, animal nutrition, milk production and gestation.
The app prompts farmers on vital days of the cows gestation period; helps farmers find the nearest veterinary physician; collects and stores milk and breeding records and sends farmers best dairy practices. The text messages and voice prompts are sent to farmers within the 365-day cow cycle, and the app is designed to run on both low-end and high-end mobile phones.
Farmers register for the service on their phones by sending a message to a short code. Afterwards, the farmers key in important information about their cows, such as serve date and the birth date of the cow. The farmers then start receiving timely and tailored messages, advice and information.
