Gmail virtual keyboards: Process ,Stakes and Opportunities in October 2012

Since October 09, 2012 Gmail has gained more than 75 virtual keyboards, transliteration and IMEs, collectively called input tools in Gmail. These tools aim to enable you to type in the language and keyboard layout you’re accustomed to. It is also possible to switch between languages with one click.

From the five languages that were initially supported, henceforth with these new virtual keyboards, Gmail supports typing in 75 languages.To enable Input Tools, follow these steps:

  1. Click the gear icon in the upper right, then select Settings.

 
2-In the General tab, select the checkbox next to “Enable input tools” under the “Language” section. (If you don’t see Enable Input Tools, you may need to click on the Show advanced options link next to “Display Language” menu.)

 
3- In the “Input Tools settings" window that appears, double-click the input tool you'd like from the "All input tools" field, and it'll move to the "Selected input tools" field. You can also select the input tool and use the grey arrows to move them between the two fields. Reorder your input tools by selecting anye input tool and clicking the up and down arrows. 
4-The keyboard icon indicates that you’ve selected a virtual keyboard 
5-Click Ok, then Save Changes at the bottom of the Gmail settings page.
 
You can edit these selections at any time by returning to your settings and clicking Edit tools in the “Language” section.
