New Firefox Beta for Windows, Mac and Linux: Stakes and Opportunities around preliminary support for the new Social API
Available for downloading since October 12, 2012, Firefox Beta for Windows, Mac and Linux introduces
also preliminary support for the new Social API, with a set of social features
developed by Mozilla.
One of the stakes via the
OpenSearch standard and Social API is to enable developers to integrate social
services into the browser. The services integrate with Firefox via the Social
API sidebar, can help users to keep up with friends and family anywhere on the
Web without having to open a new Web page or switch between tabs. Remain
connected to a favorite social network even while you are surfing the Web,
watching a video or playing a game…
Mozilla announced then
begin testing the Social API as soon as is possible working with Facebook to
test Facebook Messenger with the Social API. And Firefox Beta testers will be
the first to experiment with this new feature in the coming weeks.
The Social API may have endless potential for integrating
social networks, e-mail, finance, news and other applications.
