New phpLD 5: Stakes and Opportunities around ingredients, changes and features
Although latest version (The phpLD 4) has been a real
success, but there were always any standing issues that needed to be addressed
quickly.
Therefore the release of phpLD 5, aims to bring
something so special including:
Easier Upgrading: which is presented as the biggest issue addressed in phpLD 5. In fact in the past, every single template had to be upgraded whenever the new version release. Henceforth the design and the code are separate. This means that, when we release a new update in the phpLD 5 branch, you just upload some files, click a button. You can also change the design all you want.
More Regular Updates process has been adopted. Regarding Modern Code Libraries and Standards, now phpLD 5 now requires PHP 5.3 or higher. The Model View Controller standard has been adopted. Jquery will continue to receive improvements. With CSS libraries, YAML library has been introduced into the very first templates.
Improvements on the Widgets include: the ability to repurpose the same widget. For example, if you are using multiple link types you could show the latest Videos with a widget, and then recreate a second instance and show the latest Links. With the greater flexibility of MVC and PHP 5.3, some widgets code have been rewritten to make widgets more powerful. You can drag and drop in the admin. (video of drag and drop) without neglecting the possibility to edit the heading in the admin.
Displaying multiple listings on a google map becomes possible (video demonstration). Learnmore about others features and improvements here!
