PostgreSQL and Google Summer of Code 2013: stakes and opportunities for students.

The PostgreSQL Project announces its participation in the Google Summer of Code 2013 program. This means, as a student, if you have discovered for example a new algorithm as part of your thesis work, PostgreSQL would like to see a proposal implementing that in PostgreSQL Database. As the approach, PostgreSQL aims to follow an open community development model. This means the student projects have to be reviewed and commented on by any and all members of the PostgreSQL community. In addition PostgreSQL announces that it may be able to find mentors for additional
projects by reaching out to this community.
A strong proposal will include:
    • Benefits to the PostgreSQL Community, this means a good project will not just be fun to work on, but also generally useful to others.
    • Deliverables this means it is very important to list quantifiable results here
    • Project Schedule, this means how long will the project take? When can you begin work?
    • Bio, this means who are you? What makes you the best person to work on this project?
You can see additional here!, before submitting a proposal.
NB: From April 22nd, 2013, students can apply to Summer of Code at the GSoC website
