Airbus has received the EASA certification of ROPS on the A320ceo: stakes and opportunities.
After having been approved by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) on
the A380 in October 2009 and currently in service the A380 fleet, Airbus
henceforth has achieved initial EASA certification of its innovative Runway
Overrun Prevention System (ROPS) technology on A320ceo Family aircraft.
For those who unfamiliar, Connectikpeople may recall that, this on-board
cockpit technology, aims to increase pilots’ situational awareness during
landing, reduces exposure to runway excursion risk, and
provides active protection.
provides active protection.
According to Airbus, this EASA certification of ROPS on the A320ceo is the
next step in making ROPS available for line-fit and retrofit to other Airbus
models including: the A320ceo with Sharklets, the A330 Family, and the A320neo.
“This
initial EASA certification for ROPS on the A320 Family is an important new step
to offering the enhanced safety benefits across all our aircraft and for the
industry.” said Yannick Malinge, Airbus’ Senior Vice President and Chief
Product Safety Officer.
Connectikpeople has also discovered that, Airbus is working to make ROPS commercially
available for aircraft from other manufacturers.
