‘’IBM is the first company to receive privacy certification under the APEC CBPR system.”
Official since yesterday, this is a milestone achievement for IBM regarding
data privacy management practices.
For those who unfamiliar, Connectikpeople may recall that, the CBPR system
was developed to provide a pragmatic and flexible
way for companies to demonstrate their trustworthiness and accountability for personal information.
way for companies to demonstrate their trustworthiness and accountability for personal information.
This means, the APEC CBPR system is a co-regulatory initiative that
addresses cross border data flows between the United States and other APEC
member economies via voluntary and enforceable codes of conduct adopted by
participating businesses.
Therefore following a
review of IBM’s privacy policies and practices, TRUSTe, the Accountability Agent for APEC’s privacy standard certified that IBM
is CBPR compliant.
“The safe handling of consumers’
personal information is crucial for the success of businesses as they enter new
markets with different privacy frameworks. We continue to support
efforts, such as at the APEC CBPR system, to further the interoperability of
privacy frameworks worldwide." said Chris Babel, CEO for TRUSTe.
