The Rockmelt apps and web product acquired by Yahoo!, will be shutdown on August 31, 2013.

This is a surprising announcement revealed yesterday by the Rockmelt staff: ‘’We’re excited to tell you that Rockmelt has been acquired by Yahoo!.’’The twenty first acquisition for Yahoo! since the appointment of Marissa Mayer as a CEO. Henceforth the team of people behind Rockmelt will join Yahoo! with the goal to help Yahoo! improve and develop its overall online tools of search.
Connectikpeople may recall that, Rockmelt has been founded in
2009 by Eric Vishria (CEO) and Tim Howes (CTO) based on the observation that the way we all use the Web has changed dramatically while Web browsers have not, Rockmelt is re-imagining what navigating the Web should be: mobile, visual, social, and personalized.
The company had released a desktop browser in November 2010. In late 2012, they created the iOS app to navigate the entire Web on mobile devices without ever having to enter a URL. Then in April 2013, Connectikpeople has observed that, they return to the desktop to change how we discover the best of the Web. In June 2013 the company was excited to add Android users to the Rockmelt family.
Finally, Rockmelt raised $40M from some of the technology industry's greatest innovators, including Andreessen Horowitz, Accel Partners, Khosla Ventures, First Round Capital and industry legends Bill Campbell, Ron Conway and Diane Greene.
