Innovative clean energy technologies: here is ‘’the first concrete-composite floating platform wind turbine to be deployed in the world’’.
Despite the complexity of their implementations, the findings around
the innovative clean energy technologies are progressively encouraging in terms
of results, technologies and new approach experienced.
Today, Connectikpeople is thrilled to observe that, this project Led by the University of Maine, is an early attempt ‘’to harness some of the strong
offshore winds and paves the
way for wind farms to be set up 50 miles off the
coast where the winds are strong and consistent. According to researchers 5
gigawatts of power can be harvested by 2030. This project is especially interesting according to U.S. Department of Energy because:
·
The floating wind turbine features a unique
semi-submersible platform that uses a lower cost concrete foundation.
·
A
tower is lighter in weight than conventional turbines due to its use of
composites.
In our image above, you
can find an example image of the design of a semi submersible platform that is
used for an oil drilling rig. According to researchers, the same type of
platform will be used for this floating wind platform, except it will be made
out of concrete instead of steel.
