The 11th session of Orange Institute kicked off: stakes and opportunities.
Progressively, you can observe that, they are, lots of tech centers projects and programs which are initiated, promoted and animated around the world. All these approaches are focused on the digital economy, where lots of business opportunities are generated every day. But in this trend many errors appear more and more, because of lack of
innovations. Therefore the vast majority of the applications developed fail.
At Orange, the French telecoms operator, they have launched Orange Fab, the
company’s IT startup accelerator program and Orange Institute, a global think
tank on the digital economy.
Until now, the results are mincing, but the dynamic is on the positive
curve. So at the beginning of this week, Orange Chairman and CEO Stephane
Richard kicked off the 11th session of Orange Institute, a global think tank on
the digital economy.
The goal is to gather continually, a set of creative minds around this project.
In this dynamic, Connectikpeople has observed that, in a fireside chat with Ben
Horowitz (investor), Stephane Richard discussed the imperatives for making it
easier for startups and innovative companies to do business in the mobile
industry. Orange Fab, the Group’s accelerator program, plays an important role
in Orange’s responses to the necessity to encourage rapid and open innovation.
The program is now entering its second round of engaging with startups by
opening a month-long round of applications from November 1st 2013.
“Telecom
operators such as Orange are accelerating the deployment of the next phase of
digital convergence for high-speed mobile networks with 4G and for fixed
networks with fiber. We expect more creative innovations to be triggered by
this new framework. Stimulating the participation of industry actors and
entrepreneurs in broader fields such as entertainment, the theme of this Orange
Institute session in San Francisco and Los Angeles - is part of the new
opportunity we foresee with 4G and fiber.” Said Stephane Richard.
Orange is one of the world’s leading telecommunications operators with
sales of 43.5 billion euros in 2012 and has 168,000 employees worldwide at 30
June 2013, including 103,000 employees in France. Present in 32 countries, the
Group has a total customer base of more than 231 million customers at 30 June
2013, including 174 million mobile customers and 15 million fixed broadband
customers worldwide. Orange is also a leading provider of global IT and telecommunication
