Here is how MTN aims to develop online businesses in the African markets and in the Middle East.
Henceforth this is official; MTN Group has
unveiled its ambitions beyond its traditional business, as a global telecom
operator. The company will invest about EUR 300million
over the next two to four years into AIH and MEIH.
In fact, MTN Group has partnered with Rocket Internet and Millicom
International Cellular to develop internet businesses in Africa through Africa
Internet Holding
(AIH).
In the same dynamic, MTN and Rocket Internet will create a joint venture to
develop internet businesses in the Middle East, with MTN and Rocket as 50%
shareholders in Middle East Internet Holding (MEIH). Rocket Internet has a
presence in several Middle Eastern countries, and has rolled out a series of
high-growth online businesses, including Easytaxi, Lamudi, Namshi and
Hellofood.
Connectikpeople.co recalls that founded in 2012 as a joint venture between
Rocket Internet and Millicom International Cellular, AIH is an internet group
in Africa, with presence in 13 countries on the continent, including South
Africa, Nigeria, Egypt, Morocco, Cote d’Ivoire and Ghana. The company has
developed several successful e-commerce ventures including Jumia, Zando, Kaymu,
Jovago, Lamudi, Carmudi, Easytaxi and Hellofood.
