Alibaba’s platform helped millions of e-retailers overcome the IT challenges caused by explosive web traffic, by leveraging the high scalability and reliability brought by Aliyun's large-scale infrastructure architecture. 

Aliyun has developed multiple specialized architectures that are optimized for specific workload types, by customizing server configuration and virtualization technology, and even by leading the R&D of an optimized rack scale solution (Scorpio Project). 

Alibaba also launched their open data processing services (ODPS) and data process center (DPC, a business intelligence platform) as the platform as a service (PaaS) to its entire community in June 2014.
