White biotechnology in the commercial manufacturing
For those
who are unfamiliar, white biotechnology has enabled the commercial
manufacturing of several products such as curd, cheese, and
beverages by using natural metabolic pathways and various microorganisms. Earlier, these bio-based products were
not commonly used in industries.
They
were used in niche industries such as biofuel production. However, today, several industries such
as pharmaceutical and F&B use bio-based products to produce APIs and
enzymes to enhance the texture and aroma of food.
