Cloud gaming, also referred to as gaming on demand
Cloud
gaming, referred to as gaming on demand, is a
type of online gaming that provides end-users with the ability to play games
directly across various devices. The two major types of cloud gaming are video
streaming and cloud gaming based on file streaming. The actual game is stored,
executed, and rendered on the remote operator's or game company's server and
the video results are streamed directly to a consumer's computers over the
internet.
According to Research and Markets, North America dominated the global
cloud gaming market with more than half of the share in 2016. However, Asia-Pacific is the fastest
growing market for cloud gaming and is estimated to witness a CAGR of more than
40% during the forecast period.
An increasing mobile and internet subscriber
base, increase in gaming audience, government initiatives related to
infrastructure activities, improvements in development of new technologies, and
decrease in piracy are the major drivers for this market's growth.
The global market for Cloud gaming
in 2016 was USD 649
million and is estimated to reach USD 3235.1 million by 2022 at a CAGR of 30.7%
during the forecasted period.
